Expression Profiling Unit
The Expression Profiling Unit is part of the Biomedical Sciences Research Center "Alexander Fleming". The Unit operates since the beginning of 2008 and is equipped with the most advanced technology on microarray experimentation and data analysis. Although it is a newly established Unit its personnel has extensive experience on microarray technology as well as on RNA and DNA handling.
The B.S.R.C. Al. Fleming’s Expression Profiling Unit provides expression profiling services to academic and research centers as well as the private sector, in the context of academic collaborations, participation in research networks, and/or contracted services.
Overview
Expression profiling, the expression levels of thousand of genes, by DNA microarrays is a powerful tool for biologists, mathematicians and computer scientists in their attempt to decipher the complex organization of biological phenomena. The expression profile of any given cell, to any given status or response, constitutes a molecular fingerprint which could help to discriminate between malignant and benign, active or quiescent, resting or infected. Apart from their obvious applications like finding responsive genes to a given stimulus, defining pathological states at a molecular level, exploring the mode of action of pharmaceutical compounds and aiding the classification of patients, DNA microarrays offer intriguing new possibilities.
